Trinity Episcopal Church, grounds, and rectory are enjoyed year-round by tourists, dogs, concertgoers, and parishioners. Our historic cemetery, artistic windows, beautiful architecture and peaceful churchyard welcome all. In January, 2023, Trinity began several renovation projects to improve the church and rectory.
You may have noticed long extension cords, power tools, and tall ladders moving around the outside of the church (pictured below). Four window sills needed to be replaced after years of wear and tear. The crew repaired additional window sills that were damaged, but not to the point of requiring replacement. This project was completed in February, 2023. Trinity’s Tiffany stained-glass windows are now safely displayed above sturdy window sills once again!
Also in January, the second phase of renovations to the rectory were finally begun. The first phase of renovations began prior to AJ and Shannon arriving in January of 2021, but the remaining goals to make the rectory fully accessible were delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
There are three parts to the current phase. The first component is to rebuild the addition on the Johnson Street side closest to the playground which has been steadily sliding away from the rest of the house for years. Much of what has been visible from the outside is scaffolding and temporary support to insure the safety of the crew. By the end of renovations, the addition will look largely the same, except sturdier and with an updated bathroom and closet upstairs and a sunroom accessible from the kitchen on the main floor.
The second part of the construction is now coming into view on the Beverley Street side of the building where a new, fully accessible complete bath is being added. The final phase of the construction is for a ramp to connect from the sidewalk off of Church Street to the Rectory’s front porch. These changes will allow for all members of our parish to be able to attend functions held in the Rectory, and for any future residents with mobility issues to be able to live in the Rectory.
Trinity Episcopal Church’s purpose is to provide a loving, active environment for Christian worship, learning and service. The rectory renovations further our purpose by enabling wheelchair users to access the rectory and ensuring that AJ and Shannon have a structurally sound and functional home. Look for an Open House once the dust has settled to see and celebrate the completion of this important project.
