Sunday School

Sunday School meets on Sunday mornings from 10-10:50 a.m. during the fall, winter, and spring. Please see our calendar for start and end dates.

Sunday School (and most other classes and formation activities) meet in the Parish House behind the church. Children meet in the classrooms on the ground floor or on the second floor.

Nursery
Child care is provided for infants through age 3. It is available during the school year from 8:45 am to 12:30 pm. and in the summer for the 10:00 am service. The nursery is downstairs in the Parish House.

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten: Godly Play
Children have an innate sense of the presence of God. Active imagination at this age produces long-lasting images and feelings about God. The “Godly Play” curriculum recognizes the important role of imagination at this stage of Christian formation. Based on Montessori methods, “Godly Play” encourages children to explore their faith through story, prayer, singing, and hands-on activities. In the process, children are introduced to religious language, and their spiritual experience is enhanced. They are also introduced to the concept of reverence for “holy space,” which will serve them well as they mature in the faith. This class meets in the lower level of the Parish House.

Grades 1 – 5: The Jesse Tree
This curriculum is based on the book The Advent Jesse Tree by Dean Meador Lambert. Children will learn a clearer understanding of the Old Testament as it is slowly revealed and explained by the coming of the Christ Child. This engaging curriculum combines conversation, devotions, crafts, and snacks. This class meets on the lower level of the Parish House.

Grades 6 – 12: The Jesse Tree

The Jesse Tree program will also span to grades 6-12 only in different classrooms with different adult leaders. This program is based on the book The Advent Jesse Tree by Dean Meador Lambert. The youth will learn a clearer understanding of the Old Testament as it is slowly revealed and explained by the coming of the Christ Child. This engaging curriculum combines conversation, devotions, crafts, and food.

In addition in 2018, grades 9-12 will meet once a month using a curriculum called The Living Compass. This  program will help this age group look at the myriad of decisions they are making in their lives and help them wonder whether these decisions will help them create the abundant life that God dreams of for them. This will encourage our teens to feel known, connected and respected as vital members of our community. These classes will be held upstairs on the second floor of the Parish House.

Throughout the Church school year, Middle and High School students will also meet once a month for Youth Group with extra activities that promote fellowship within the group and outreach to the broader community. This group meets everywhere!

Adult Sunday School: What Keeps You Up at Night (WKYUAN)
Our question this year will be “What do you see is a personal and/or Church (meaning Trinity) response to how a free nation deals with diversity.” Guidelines have been created by the group so that all will feel welcome to join in and participate in the discussion: 1) No one will be allowed to advocate bringing others to see their way. 2) No one will feel pressured to give up the ground he or she stands on. 3) Conversation is confidential but, you may share what has been said in class without using names. 4) You must be respectful of different views. 5) Conversations may continue for several weeks. During the week, think about the question and join the class letting us know WKYUAN. Biblical references will be made when possible to show the parallels between our life today and life in the time of the Bible. This group will meet in McCracken Hall located on the main floor of the Parish House.
