Sunday School meets on Sunday mornings from 10-10:50 a.m. during the fall, winter, and spring. Please see our calendar for start and end dates.
Sunday School (and most other classes and formation activities) meet in the Parish House behind the church. Children meet in the classrooms on the ground floor or on the second floor.
Child care is provided for infants through age 3. It is available during the school year from 8:45 am to 12:30 pm. and in the summer for the 10:00 am service. The nursery is downstairs in the Parish House.
Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Grade 1
Children have an innate sense of the presence of God. Active imagination at this age produces long-lasting images and feelings about God. The “Godly Play” curriculum recognizes the important role of imagination at this stage of Christian formation. Based on Montessori methods, “Godly Play” encourages children to explore their faith through story, prayer, singing, and hands-on activities. In the process, children are introduced to religious language, and their spiritual experience is enhanced. They are also introduced to the concept of reverence for “holy space,” which will serve them well as they mature in the faith. This class meets in the lower level of the Parish House.
Grades 2 – 5: Hands On-Bible Curriculum
As the title suggests, this lectionary-based curriculum is experiential with a focus on the Bible that feeds this age group’s love of story. The children are helped to uncover truths about God and his world through active, hands-on activities. These activities are meant to encourage students to use their Bibles during every class – not just reading but also experiencing the Word – habits that should carry over outside the classroom and encourage growth in the Spirit. This class meets in the lower level of the Parish Hall.
Grades 6 – 8: Teen Text
This lectionary-based curriculum takes “current events” a step further. Weekly scriptures with a bearing on the current event under consideration are introduced. Then a series of provocative questions are raised that encourage the students to bring the Bible passage to bear for evaluating and understanding the current event. Activities centered on the Biblical text and supplemental media dig deeper into the story. The group also meets for extra activities that promote fellowship within the group and outreach to the broader community. This class is held on the second floor of the Parish Hall.
Grades 9 – 12: Service Sunday
Each Sunday our Senior High youth are involved in a different activity. Whether heading to the coffee shop to discuss “The Wired Word” (an interactive Christian evaluation of real life situations) or participating in service projects, the youth are being challenged to think deeply about “real world” needs and the service that Christians can provide. The group also meets once a month for extra activities that promote fellowship within the group and outreach to the broader community. When they are actually in the Parish Hall (!), this class meets on the second floor.
Adult Sunday School
What Keeps You Up at Night? Is the Adult Sunday School program theme being offered in coordination with the current Sunday School schedule. There will be speakers on a variety of topics which affect most of our lives, from local to global, with an emphasis on viewing these issues in the larger context of how our faith can inform our daily living. We meet in the Parish Hall from 10:00 am to 10:45. Grab a cup of coffee and join in!
